Sam Margevicius (b. 1989) is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. His photographic compositions explore the medium’s complex relationship to drawing, sculpture, and music. Drawing parallels within a single image or across multiple, Sam’s work plays with the ways in which meaning can be revealed or redacted, fixed or ephemeral.
During his time at the Prairie Ronde Artist Residency Sam is making black & white photographs in and around the Vicksburg Paper Mill; experimenting with a variety of papers and xerographic printing techniques, the work honors and explores the legacy of this Mill specifically and the American paper industry in general.
He has shown work in various galleries throughout the nation, from California to New York. In 2017 Sam received his MFA from The ICP-Bard College. He currently works as a master silver gelatin printer, and is a faculty member at the school of The International Center of Photography. Check out Sam’s video on our YouTube channel!
